So maybe I was wrong…

Well it seems that either Optus improved their HSPA network, or more likely my building at home isn't really very mobile friendly. At the moment I'm making this post from a road out in the country, around 40 minutes out of Echuca heading towards melbourne on a non major road. While moving... Which aint to bad considering the signal seems to drop in and out. Even with the dropouts the net is pretty stable and can handle some outage before it picks up with the next tower. And I'm not even on GPRS, and I'm still on full HSPA! So I may have been wrong to say that their HSPA was hopeless and to avoid it. If you're in the metro area, I'd still get 3, but if you travel a bit take a look at Exetel's HSPA services. The coverage is pretty damn good and so are the speeds.

Anyway I'm on my way to the cricket at the moment and I'll post again on my way home. For those of you watching todays match keep an eye out for a bunch of people in Hawaiian shirts... Real bright ones... We also have a banner apparently... Progress is also being made on PRCon and I'll post more about that when I reach milestone 1, hopefully in a little under a fortnight. Laters all!

Why AFACT has it all wrong!

For those of you who don't know AFACT is 'The Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft'. In other words they are a bunch of media industry people who think they have the right to police what we send in Australia via P2P networks. Of course that's what I thought till I read a post on the CSP website. They provide legal advice to Telcos and ISPs in Australia.

For those interested the source is here http://cspcentral.com.au/wordpress/?p=1209

However  the basic gist of the whole thing is that AFACT and other copyright groups have no right to be sending out take down notice's regarding P2P traffic. Australian law regarding the take down notices leaves no provision for a P2P take down notice. Therefore the damn things are completely irrelevant. I reccomend if you get a takedown notice you visit the URL above and notify your ISP that the notice is not legit and therefore you refuse to aknowledge it.

Take a look, hope your christmas went well!
